1985 Tayana 37 Cutter — “GYATSO”

A legendary Bob Perry bluewater design — a proven offshore platform ready for restoration.

Few production sailboats have earned the offshore reputation of the Tayana 37. Designed by Bob Perry and built by the renowned Ta-Yang Yacht Building Co. in Taiwan, she is a heavily built, seakindly cutter that has carried owners safely across oceans for four decades. “GYATSO” is cutter-rigged with all lines led aft to the cockpit, making her manageable for shorthanded and singlehanded passagemaking.

Offered as a restoration project, she gives the right buyer a rare opportunity: a sturdy, capable, and fundamentally sound bluewater hull — the expensive, hard-to-replace foundation — paired with a remarkable amount of recent, high-quality work already completed and a substantial inventory of brand-new equipment waiting to be installed. Acquire a proven Perry-designed world cruiser and finish her out to your own standard.

Her Yanmar 3QM30 30 HP diesel has been rebuilt and shows under 300 hours since. Much of the costly sail and canvas work most buyers dread has already been handled, all by Quantum Sails Annapolis.

Recent upgrades already completed

Included new equipment for the refit

The owner has assembled an extensive inventory of new gear to go aboard, including Garmin electronics, Victron power management, Blue Sea Systems components, and more — a significant head start on the electrical and electronics build-out, conveying with the boat.

By Chris Adriance

Chris Adriance’s passion for the bay and his career spent on the water make him a great broker.

Chris spent his youth fishing and boating in the Adirondacks and other inland lakes of upstate New York. Following this passion, he has pursued a career as a fisheries biologist. Logging well over 100 days each year on the water.

He and his wife have been cruising the bay for nearly a decade now. First in their Catalina 25, Josephine. Wanting to go further and stay longer, they soon upgraded to their current Catalina 30, Josephine II.

His passion for being on the water doesn’t end there. His weekends are spent crewing on one of the local Annapolis J/105 boats. Previously he crewed weekly on a J/35. When he isn’t doing that, you might find him and his family motoring around ego alley in their vintage 1968 Boston Whaler that he restored.
