S/V Baboss is now on the market! This 1985 Alubat Ovni 37 Sonate showcases the renowned craftsmanship of the Alubat shipyard in Les Sables-d’Olonne. Designed by Philippe Briand, this vessel is a testament to the brand’s legacy of rugged, sail-anywhere aluminum cruisers. The Ovni 37 Sonate is constructed from 6mm of 5083 H111 aluminum and features a hard-chined hull. With a versatile design engineered for high-latitude exploration and shallow-water cruising, the vessel includes a ballasted hull and a fully retracting keel and rudder (minimum draft of 0.55 meters and a maximum draft of 2.05 meters), allowing it to be beached in tidal zones with complete stability.
The interior of the Ovni Sonate is beautifully designed for comfort and practicality, catering to long-term cruising needs and offering a roomy layout with 1.9 meters of headroom and a beam of 3.61 meters. The two-cabin version is especially sought after for its large cockpit locker and increased galley storage. The galley is well equipped for preparing meals while at sea. The head is located aft behind the galley. Across from the navigation station is a generously sized area for electronics. Aft of the navigation station is a private cabin with a double berth, a large opening port, and ample storage. The spacious salon features a folding table at the center, flanked by settees that can be used as single berths for guests. The forward cabin offers a comfortable double berth and benefits from a large opening hatch that promotes excellent airflow.
S/V Baboss has been professionally maintained, including an engine refurbishment in 2021, and has received sail work to suit a range of conditions.
Since acquiring S/V Baboss in 2011, the current owners have made numerous upgrades to enhance functionality and comfort, including replacement of rigging in 2012, a new headsail in 2014, cruising the Caribbean from 2015 to 2018, boom reinforcement in 2018, a new teak cockpit and nonskid in 2021, a new teak floor in 2023, and a deck repaint with anti-slip patches in 2022. While S/V Baboss is in good condition, she has not been at sea since 2018. There are a few items that need attention; please inquire for more details.
The Alubat Ovni 37 Sonate is a blue water cruiser capable of exploring the most remote areas while providing comfortable living accommodations. With only a few more upgrades, S/V Baboss will be ready to sail away!
