The world’s leading builder of cruising catamarans, the Fountaine Pajot boatyard was set up in 1976 near La Rochelle. The original team consisted of four people and built the 505 under the leadership of Jean-François FOUNTAINE, a well known regatta competitor recently returned from the Montreal Olympics. Innovative and well built, these craft immediately attracted the best French competitors. The enterprise then developed further, with other models of dinghies, the 420 and 470, built at the new Aigrefeuille yard, opened in 1978.

As early as 1980, Fountaine Pajot altered course and started to build Prototype IOR, monohull racers. These half-tonners from the Fountaine stable were to become world champions and win the prestigious Figaro solo race. The reputation of the yard in the world of ocean racing was thus established.

In 1981, the first multi-hulled vessel left the Fountaine Pajot yard. This was the 18 m deep-sea racing trimaran, the Royale, built entirely in foam-core sandwich for Loïc Caradec et Philippe Facque. The Fountaine Pajot team committed itself to open class racing, involving itself deeply in the adventure of Charente Maritime sailing vessels. Fountaine Pajot started building cruising catamarans in 1983 with a vision to develop a complete range of entry level through to large ocean going, world cruising catamaran designs. At this early stage in the development of production catamarans, Fountaine Pajot set out with the focus on innovative, safe, unsinkable and seaworthy designs that are now the benchmark for the world catamaran market.

Aboard S/V Tantrum: A 2005 Fountaine Pajot 43 Belize Owners

There’s a certain honesty to a walkthrough filmed by someone who clearly knows every locker on the boat. That’s what you get with S/V Tantrum, a 2005 Fountaine Pajot 43 Belize in owners layout, presented by Marianne. No music, no drone shots — just a steady tour from the saloon down into both hulls, opening cupboards as she goes. Saloon and galley The tour starts in the saloon, where the dinette table drops to convert into a berth for two extra guests.…

Aboard S/V Tantrum: A 2005 Fountaine Pajot 43 Belize

The walkthrough of S/V Tantrum, a 2005 Fountaine Pajot 43 Belize in the sought-after owners version, is short and matter-of-fact — the kind of tour given by someone who knows the boat well enough to point rather than pitch. What it does cover is the cockpit and deck, and that is where a cruising catamaran earns its keep. Cockpit and deck The tour highlights a generous cockpit with double seats and cushions throughout, plus clear plastic covers and sunscreen panels that can be rigged all the way around — sunshades up in the heat, rain covers up in a downpour.…

Aboard S/V Before Sunrise: A 2015 Fountaine Pajot Lipari 41

Filmed on a mooring in Prickly Bay, Grenada, this walkthrough of S/V Before Sunrise — a 2015 Fountaine Pajot Lipari 41 — is less a highlight reel than a conversation between two people who have crawled through a lot of catamarans. Chris Rundlett of LTD Sailing School and Yacht Brokerage, affiliated with The Multihull Company, is joined by Chrystal, and the pair spend the better part of an hour picking through the boat’s systems, its upgrades and its handful of honest to-do items.…

Aboard S/V Littlest Hobo: A 2009 Fountaine Pajot Orana 44

Some catamarans photograph better than they sail. The Fountaine Pajot Orana 44 isn’t one of them — and in his full walkthrough of the 2009 owner’s version S/V Littlest Hobo, broker Mark Wattrus makes the point early: “These Orana 44s actually sail pretty darn well,” he says, crediting a good hull design and generous sail area in the tradition of the older Fountaine Pajots. Deck and cockpit The tour begins aft, where a canvas bimini on a stainless frame shades a generous cockpit with U-shaped seating and an additional bench to one side.…

Aboard S/V Saya: A Well-Loved Fountaine Pajot Orana 44

There are boats that survive fifteen years, and there are boats that are carried through them. S/V Saya, a 2009 Fountaine Pajot Orana 44 lying on a mooring in the marine protected area off St. George’s, Grenada, is clearly the second kind. In a relaxed on-the-water walkthrough, broker Chris Rundlett of LTD Sailing School and Yacht Brokerage — joined by Chrystal — makes the case not with a spec sheet but with the small tells that experienced cruisers notice first. “You can always just check the floor right in front of the galley,” Chris says.…

Aboard M/Y Vie Pure: A 2021 Fountaine Pajot MY4.S Tour

Some boats are easier to understand once you’ve walked them, and the 2021 Fountaine Pajot MY4.S M/Y Vie Pure is one of them. In her video walkthrough, broker Caroline Laviolette makes the case simply: this is a sporty, stable, nimble power catamaran from a builder that has been producing powercats for more than 25 years and sailing cats for almost 50. The name translates to “Pure Life” — not a bad philosophy for a cruising boat. Built for the Loop — and the shallows Two numbers do a lot of work here.…

Fountaine Pajot Lipari 41: Fort Pierce-Based Cruising Cat

The 2010 Fountaine Pajot Lipari 41 S/V Mermaid’s Booty is now listed through Conor Dugan of The Multihull Company, working from a newly opened office in Fort Pierce, Florida. In a recent walkthrough of the location, Conor makes a compelling case that where a catamaran lives matters almost as much as the boat itself — and Fort Pierce has quietly become one of the more practical homes for cats on the U.S. East Coast. A Cruising-Ready Layout The Lipari 41 has long been a favorite in the Fountaine Pajot lineup for owners who want genuine bluewater ability without stepping up to a 45- or 50-footer.…

2014 Fountaine Pajot Helia 44: Island State of Mind

Some catamarans are built for the marina; others are built to keep going. S/V Island State of Mind, a 2014 Fountaine Pajot Helia 44, sits firmly in the latter camp — a well-maintained, cruise-ready example presented by Captain Paco Montaner of The Multihull Company in Puerto Rico. The Helia 44 remains one of Fountaine Pajot’s most beloved designs, prized for its balance of comfort, performance, and offshore capability. Aboard Island State of Mind, that reputation is backed up by an inviting, light-filled salon, a fully equipped galley, and generously proportioned cabins designed for extended cruising rather than weekend hops.…

Fountaine Pajot Lipari 41: Effortless Miles, Easy Living

Step aboard S/V Before Sunrise, a 2015 Fountaine Pajot Lipari 41 that captures what so many buyers look for in a mid-size cruising catamaran: an easy motion at sea, a sociable layout above deck, and the kind of accommodation that turns long passages into extended holidays. Drawn by the respected Joubert-Nivelt design firm, the Lipari 41 sits low and light on the water, taking waves gently and moving swiftly under sail. The integrated helm station is the boat’s operational heart. Every line and control leads back to the raised helm, so a single sailor can trim, reef, and maneuver without leaving the wheel.…

Aboard S/V Grand Crew: A 2019 Fountaine Pajot Saona 47

Broker Cynthia Wummer of The Multihull Company walks us through S/V Grand Crew, a 2019 Fountaine Pajot Saona 47 that has clearly been cared for and thoughtfully upgraded. From the dolphin seats on the bow to the sun lounge above the cockpit, the tour highlights a catamaran designed for both comfortable liveaboard life and confident passagemaking. On Deck and at the Helm The bow area sets the tone: dolphin seats forward, a full-width sunbed, and a centerline anchor locker equipped with an oversized 85-pound Mantus anchor, 300 feet of new 3/8-inch chain, and a backup Fortress F39 with an additional 50 feet of chain.…

2017 Fountaine Pajot 50 Saba: S/V Ten:10

The Fountaine Pajot 50 Saba has earned its reputation as one of the most livable long-range cruising catamarans in its class, and S/V Ten:10 — a 2017 example listed with Paco Montaner — is a clean, ready-to-sail representation of the model. At 50 feet, she offers the kind of volume, deck real estate, and passage-making ability that owners consistently return to Fountaine Pajot for. Why the 50 Saba Endures The Saba 50 was designed with true bluewater ambitions: a flybridge helm with excellent all-around visibility, generous forward lounging on the trampolines and coachroof, and a shaded cockpit that flows seamlessly into the saloon through a wide sliding door.…

Aboard S/V SEASCAPE: A 2023 Fountaine Pajot Isla 40 Tour

There’s an old broker’s rule — buy as new as you can afford, and as small as you can live with. Standing aboard S/V SEASCAPE, a 2023 Fountaine Pajot Isla 40, broker Zee Kalinic pushes back gently on the second half of that advice. This may be a 40-footer on paper, but the way she uses her volume tells a different story. A Cockpit That Punches Above Its Length Zee makes the case immediately: clients stepping aboard the Isla 40 tend to clock the cockpit within ten seconds.…

Fountaine Pajot 80 Tahiti: A Day-Charter Cat Ready for Business

Filmed on the water in Montenegro, broker Zee Kalinic offers a brisk introduction to something genuinely unusual on the brokerage market: an 80-foot Fountaine Pajot purpose-built as a day-charter catamaran. This is S/V Tahiti, a 2015 build from the Fountaine Pajot Taiti Day Charter 80 line — a cat designed not for long passages or private cruising, but for hosting guests across sparkling day trips in style. A Rare Day-Charter Platform The Taiti 80 is a specialist. Where most 80-foot catamarans are laid out for a handful of owners and guests over long stays, this hull configuration prioritizes deck space, guest circulation, and the kind of open, sociable layout that day charter operators need.…

2018 Fountaine Pajot 40 Lucia: S/V Sea Lyon

This 2018 example, S/V Sea Lyon, is offered by broker Will Miller and represents a clean, well-cared-for entry into the popular Lucia line.
