Alibi 54 Sail Catamarans For Sale

The Alibi 54 is a purpose-built performance sailing catamaran developed in collaboration with founder and naval architect Loïc Goepfert. The design emphasis is on minimizing displacement through lightweight materials and intelligent mass distribution while retaining capabilities for extended off‑grid cruising. Multiple examples in the range have been delivered as highly customized, single‑owner builds that accentuate this design brief.

Construction is rooted in advanced composite technology. Hulls employ epoxy resin infusion over E‑glass fiberglass with a Divinycell PVC foam core (sandwich construction). Carbon fiber is used extensively in primary structural elements — including decks, sub‑structure, crossbeams, longeron, martingale and bowsprit — and in the rig (rotating carbon mast and boom). Secondary joinery and interior components have also been executed in carbon where weight saving is critical, with cabinetry and floorboards engineered for low mass. The platform is built to CE and ISO compatibility/standards.

Hydro‑ and aero‑dynamic systems reflect the performance intent: asymmetrical carbon daggerboards, a retractable drive system, and 3‑meter retractable carbon rudder blades are specified to optimize lift, control and drag reduction. Heavy systems such as engines are centralized to reduce pitching moment, and an innovative forward tender lift and storage between the carbon A‑frame bowsprit relocates stern weight to preserve trim. Reported performance figures from completed examples include top speeds up to 27 knots and comfortable cruising speeds in the high teens.

Systems fit reflects a bluewater focus with a large lithium battery bank and an extensive solar array to support generator‑free periods at anchor, while a generator remains available as an option. The interior finish on customized examples is described as modern and refined, with workmanship and detail intended to distinguish these builds from production multihulls. Typical helm layout includes dual pivoting stations, consistent with the model’s orientation toward both high speed handling and practical offshore cruising.

Aboard S/V DIFFERENCE: A Carbon-Rigged Alibi 54 in Grenada

Tied up in Port Louis Marina, Grenada, S/V DIFFERENCE is a 2011 Alibi 54 that reads more like a serious offshore tool than a production catamaran. Designed by French multihull architect Loïc Goepfert and built in Thailand, she’s a semi-custom high-performance cruiser laid up in unidirectional fiberglass, carbon, and epoxy resin — coming in just under 12 tons all-in. In the video, broker Andrew Hodgdon walks her end to end, and the picture that emerges is a boat built to sail hard while still keeping her owner in one place: single-owner, professionally captained, and never chartered.…
