The St Francis 50 offers improved speed, reduced transom immersion and turbulence, plus better motion characteristics, better looks, and more platform space, than it’s predecessor St Francis 48.

The St Francis 50 is a sophisticated yacht with all the modern conveniences of a home and yet she is a passage-maker of note, capable of crossing oceans at an average of 200-plus nautical miles per day. This is a truly serious ocean voyager for serious sailors. No silly fly-bridge, no exposed helm on this cat. Construction is cutting-edge technology: foam core, resin-infused, vinyl-ester is used throughout the layup. The St Francis 50 offers one of the largest cockpits available, and has a “U” shaped dinette on port with folding leaves which convert easily from a cocktail to dining table. There is additional seating on stbd just aft of the raised, but protected, helm station.

The St Francis 50 is the ultimate example of today’s evolution of comfort and speed in a cruising catamaran. Sophisticated and modern, with a beautiful high gloss interior, she will be at home in the most remote harbors as well as the finest yacht clubs. Her full, wide hulls provide the lift to virtually eliminate the pounding common in many older catamaran designs. Storage, closet and cabinet space is the greatest I have seen in any production boat of her size. The spacious galley up is a chef’s dream and allows the chef to cook and be a part of the party.

Aboard S/V Octavia: A 2010 St Francis 50 Built to Cruise

Some catamarans are designed to fill a charter brochure. The St Francis 50 was designed to cross oceans, and in his walkthrough of S/V Octavia, broker Jason Decker of The Multihull Company makes the distinction clear from the first minute. With more than two decades in production and an extraordinary number of hulls having completed circumnavigations, this is a model that earned its reputation the hard way. Stepping Aboard The tour begins at the stern, where extended sugar scoops sit low to the water — easy dinghy boarding, easy swim access.…
